Análisis de las comunidades macrobentónicas en un lago en el hoyo de una mina de azufre (Polonia)

Abstract: The objective of the study was to define the primary environmental factors affecting the composition of the macrobenthic community in an abandoned open cast sulphur mine pit lake that had been filled with water from a nearby river. We investigated habitats at various depths and the macrobenthic communities; samples were collected by scuba divers. Although rush and submerged vegetation in the subsaline pit lake was abundant and provided potentially good habitat conditions for mayflies, caddisflies, coleopterans… Show more

“…A common way to use flooded post-mining pits is to transform them into fishing grounds. This requires a number of preparatory works, not only because of the need to ensure the quality of the water itself, but also because of the need for adequate stocking of the reservoir in question [84]. By recreational use of the reservoir, we mean both active recreation (e.g., using water equipment, swimming) and passive recreation (e.g., sunbathing).…”

“…A saline pit lake in Poland (Mach ow) was rehabilitated as an aquatic ecosystem using buried waste, sculpted littoral zones, and river connection (Bylak et al, 2019). However, the macroinvertebrate community was less rich and more invasive than expected and may have been limited by salinity.…”

“…How riparian and littoral vegetation adapt to pit lake water quality issues such as low pH, elevated contaminant concentrations, or salinity is also a complication for many pit lake ecosystems compared to natural systems where communities have evolved alongside ambient conditions (Bylak et al 2019;.…”
