Thymectomy performed for thymoma through a sternotomy, which is the classic approach, has long been considered the most effective method of treatment, despite the severe postoperative pain and the longer recovery period due to the degree of functional impairment and the greater need for postoperative assisted ventilation in patients with symptoms of respiratory distress and in those who have suffered myasthenia gravis for a long period of time (Triviño et al, 2015).
