RESUMO A Hevea brasiliensis é uma espécie de grande destaque no Brasil por ser matéria-prima básica da borracha natural, no entanto, são escassos os estudos de suas propriedades físicas e química, bem como a influência do painel de extração de látex nessas propriedades. Baseado nisto, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a qualidade tecnológica da madeira de Hevea brasiliensis ao longo do fuste, considerando o painel de extração de látex. Foi utilizada madeira proveniente de um plantio comercial com 27 anos de idade localizado na cidade de Paranapoema, Mesorregião Noroeste do Paraná. A amostragem inicia-se com a retirada de discos de quatro alturas (base, 1,5m, 3,0m e altura da primeira bifurcação) para a determinação das propriedades físicas e químicas da madeira ao longo do fuste. Foram determinados a densidade básica, as contrações lineares, o fator anisotrópico, os teores de extrativos totais, lignina Klason, lignina solúvel, lignina total, holocelulose, cinzas e o pH da madeira. Os resultados indicam que o painel de extração de látex não influenciou as propriedades físicas da madeira. Já com relação às propriedades químicas, a presença de painel de extração aumentou o teor de extrativos e lignina total. Diferenças significativas foram encontradas entre as porções mais próximas e as mais distantes do painel para todos os componentes químicos. Com base nos resultados pôde-se concluir que a madeira de Hevea brasiliensis apresenta potencial para utilização industrial, tendo em vista a homogeneidade das propriedades físicas e por apresentarem características semelhantes às de espécies comerciais. Influence of latex extraction in the physical and chemical properties of Hevea brasiliensis wood ABSTRACT Hevea brasiliensis is a Brazilian very important species as it is a basic raw material for natural rubber, however, the studies of its physical and chemical properties are scarce, as well as the influence of the latex extraction panel on these properties. Based on this, the aim of this work was to evaluate the technological quality of Hevea brasiliensis wood along the shaft, considering the panel of latex extraction. Four 27-year-old trees were used from a commercial plantation located at Paranapoema, Northeast Mesoregion of Paraná. Sampling begins with the removal of discs of four heights (base, 1.5m, 3.0m and height of the first bifurcation) to determine the physical and chemical properties of the wood along the shaft. The basic density, linear contractions, anisotropic factor, total extractive contents, Klason lignin, soluble lignin, total lignin, holocellulose, ash and wood pH were determined. The results indicate that the latex extraction panel did not influence the physical properties of the wood. Two compost formulations based on oat straw (Avena sativa) and brachiaria (Brachiaria sp.) were tested for the cultivation of three Agaricus bisporus strains (ABI-07/06, ABI-05/03, and PB-1). The experimental design was a 2 × 3 factorial scheme (composts × strains) with 6 treatments and 8 repetitions (boxes containing 12 kg of compost). The chemical characterization of the compost (humidity, organic matter, carbon, nitrogen, pH, raw protein, ethereal extract, fibers, ash, cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin) before and after the cultivation of A. bisporus and the production (basidiomata mass, productivity, and biological efficiency) were evaluated. Data were submitted to variance analysis, and averages were compared by means of the Tukey’s test. According to the results obtained, the chemical and production characteristics showed that the best performances for the cultivation of A. bisporus were presented by the compost based on oat and the strain ABI-07/06.

There has been ever growing interest in the construction industry in using lighter, eco-friendly and sustainable materials, while maintainingthe desirable mechanical properties. The objective of the present work was to evaluate the effects of pre-treatments on chemical compatibility between Curauá fiber (Ananas erectifolius) and Portland cement. In the inhibition test, cement hydration temperature evolution wasmeasured in the absence and presence of untreated and treated Curauá fibers (cold water, hot water and NaOH). The chemical characterization of untreated Curauá fibers was done by determining the content of extractives, lignin, holocellulose and ashes. Thee Segal's method was used for determinate the crystallinity index on untreated and treated fibers. The inhibition test graded the untreated fiber as high inhibition, showing the need to provide it a treatment. Treatments done on Curauá fibers removed some amorphous components of the fibers affected positively the compatibility between cement and fiber, and reducing the inhibition.
