The main objective of the present study was to know the diversity and biomass spatial distribution of Phaeophyceae in the reef region of the Suape Port Industrial Complex (Pernambuco, Brazil). The studied material was collected in 6 (six) sampling stations, in two steps, the first between 1996 and 1999 and other on January e July of 2009 (dry and Rainy season respectively) demarcated according to the topography and distance from the port. In the laboratory, samples were sorted and fixed in formalin 4%, neutralized with borax. The taxonomic identification was based on the observation of external and internal morphology. 27 taxa belonging to 4 orders (Ectocarpales, Scytosiphonales, Dictyotales and Fucales) and five families (Chnoosporaceae, Ectocarpaceae, Scytosiphonaceae, Cystoseiraceae and Sargassaceae). Through the similarity analysis it was observed two distinct groups depending on the proximity of the port, this data were supported by permanova. The biomass of Phaeophyceae species varied from 0.001 ± 0.01 (rainy season) to 77.410 ± 3.87 g. m -2 (dry season). The species of Sargassum genus were most abundant in the area. The Phaeophyceae diversity at Suape was low, and increased with the distance from the Port and decreased during the rainy season. The area can be considered resilient because, despite of the existing impacts, species of Phaeophyceae were well represented in the area, which indicates a great capacity of the ecosystem of recovery after 30 years of the Port installation.

The aim of this study was to carry out a taxonomic survey of epiphytic seaweeds that occur on reefs of Boa Viagem Beach, located in the metropolitan region of Recife – Pernambuco state, Brazil. The samplings were performed in the dry season (December 2009) and rainy season (April 2010) at intertidal reefs using 625 cm2 squares. Voucher specimens are deposited at the Herbarium of the Instituto de Botânica, São Paulo, Brazil (SP). A total of 48 taxa were recorded of which 20 were Chlorophyta, 27 Rhodophyta and one Heterokontophyta. The most representative orders were Ceramiales and Cladophorales, with 17 and 10 taxa respectively. Nine species are new additions to the flora of Pernambucan coast. Gelidium pusillum (Stackh.) Le Jol. 1863 and Chondracanthus saundersii C. W. Schneid. and C. E. Lane 2005 had the highest number of epiphytic macroalgae. The majority of species was collected in the rainy season and on wave-exposed sites.

Acta Botanica Brasilica 26(2): 493-507. 2012. RESUMO(Macroalgas bentônicas associadas a bancos de Hypnea musciformis (Rhodophyta-Gigartinales) em duas praias do litoral baiano). Este trabalho caracteriza a estrutura e dinâmica das comunidades de macroalgas bentônicas associadas a populações de H. musciformis ocorrentes em formações recifais nas praias de Stella Maris (Salvador) e Itacimirim (Camaçari). As coletas ocorreram entre agosto de 2007 e junho de 2008. As formações recifais foram divididas em compartimentos com base no hidrodinamismo. Utilizou-se três transectos em cada compartimento, onde foram dispostos cinco quadrados de 20 x 20 cm. Foram obtidos dados de riqueza, biomassa, percentual de importância (Pi%), diversidade (H') e equitabilidade (J'). Na área estudada ocorreram 60 espécies: 30 Rhodophyta, 20 Chlorophyta e 10 Ochrophyta; biomassa média de 136 g.m -² (peso seco); e índices médios de H' e J' de 2,7 e 0,97, respectivamente. Houve predominância das rodofíceas, tanto em riqueza específi ca quanto em valores de biomassa. Foi encontrada maior contribuição do grupo morfo-funcional de algas corticadas. Dentre a fl ora associada, Gelidiella acerosa, Sargassum cymosum e Palisada perforata apresentaram maiores valores de biomassa. O compartimento recifal mais representativo em riqueza específi ca e biomassa foi a região frontal do recife. As comunidades das praias estudadas foram consideradas distintas devido à fi sionomia das formações recifais. Data about the richness, biomass, percentage of importance (Pi%), diversity (H') and evenness (J') was collected. The study recorded 60 species, 30 Rhodophyta, 20 Chlorophyta and 10 Ochrophyta, which had an average biomass of 136 g.m-² (dry weight) and average rates of H' and J' of 2.7 and 0.97, respectively. There was a predominance of red algae, both in values of richness and in biomass. The contribution of the morpho-functional group of the cortical algae was greater. Among the flora recorded, Gelidiella acerosa, Sargassum cymosum and Palisada perforata had higher biomasses. The reef compartment with the highest species richness and biomass was the frontal region.
