Análise da Força de Preensão Manual como Discriminador de Multimorbidade em Idosos

Abstract

Multimorbidity (MMB) is intended for the interaction of several chronic metabolic diseases, interfering in functional capacity and increasing mortality in the elderly. The objective is to verify the association of manual grip strength with multi-morbidities in elderly practitioners of Hydrogymnastics. The study is of transversal design, with a sample of 30 elderly, being 22 women (64±2.8 years) and 8 men (70±1.5 years), the investigation of multimorbidities was given by the use of questions that evaluate the state of health of the elderly World Health Organization Qualityof Life Instrument (WHOQOL). For global strength analysis, the Manual Grasp Force (MgF) test was used, using a Jamar dynamometer where the value of the average of the three grasps was used. Statistical analysis of the data was described by comparing means and standard deviation of force. The self-report on MMB highlighted are: hypertension -40%, cholesterol -36.67%, diabetes mellitus -26.67%, osteoporosis -26.67%. The mean manual grip strength for women on the dominant side was 22kg/F, non-dominant was 23kg/F. For men on the dominant side it was 34kg/F, non-dominant was 28.5kg/F. Women had higher percentages of MMB and mean strength significantly lower than men. The authors conclude that the results condition that the manual grip strength test substantiates a relevant association on the presence of multi-morbidity in older women. Conducting conditions so that manual grip strength becomes a dyscrinizer of complications related to the presence of chronic metabolic diseases.
