Anaerobic co-digestion of rabbit manure and sorghum crops in a bench-scale biodigester

Abstract: Any type of biomass can be used as substrate for biogas production, but the performance of the biodigestion depends on the composition of the feed, and no direct extrapolation of the yield of the process from one substrate to another can be made. In this work, the performance of a bench-scale anaerobic biodigester of 93 L installed at ambient conditions is studied. The biodigester was set up in a region where temperature varies significantly during the year, and was operated under semi-batch conditions with no… Show more

“…The stabilization of organic matter in these reactors occurs through anaerobic conditions, but process speed and efficiency can be influenced by different factors (Náthia-Neves et al, 2018). Temperature is considered the most critical variable from an operational point of view, as it has a direct effect on the microbial activity inside reactors (Adrover et al, 2020).…”

“…This large quantity of manure production results in serious environmental pollution. Anaerobic digestion (AD) can transform organic matter into energy and organic fertilizer, thereby achieving a reduction in waste and resource recovery that is of minimal environmental harm (Wafi et al 2019 ; Adrover et al 2020 ). Given these advantages, this technology has been widely used globally (Li et al 2014 ; Hailu et al 2020 ).…”
