An XML Modular Approach in the Building of Remote Labs by Students: A Way to Improve Learning

Abstract: Abstract-Practical knowledge is increasingly getting more attention in the higher education, especially in the field of engineering education. Engineering is a discipline which has, by its own definition, a large amount of practical contents. Allowing students to interact with real equipment can give to them a qualitative knowledge that cannot be obtained in other way. In this situation, remote laboratories are especially useful. This paper presents a way of reusing remote labs code by its XML representation. … Show more

“…This was a breeding ground for new researchers to establish a seamless, interoperable, and shareable integrated architecture that encompasses remote laboratories from several Universities, in order to span their dissemination and inter-institutional operation. Under this concept a new type of middleware appears, called Remote Laboratory Management System (RLMS), such as MIT iLabs [5,6], WebLab-Deusto [7], Labshare Sahara [8]), RELATED [9], or the proposed in [10]. These RLMSs provide development toolkits to incorporate remote laboratories, as well as management tools and common services.…”

“…For comparison with (1), any algebraic system U in mathematics is also defined as a triplet: U = < A, F, P>, (4) where A is a base set of elements in U; F is a set of mathematical operations; and P is a set of predicates on A [10].…”
