An UWB microstrip monopole antenna for breast tumor detection

Abstract: An ultrawideband (UWB) monopole antenna is designed for microwave breast imaging on a heterogeneous breast model. Antenna parameters are studied on the breast model for near and far proximity of the antenna from the breast skin. High current density has been observed for all positions and sizes of deep seated and superficial tumors keeping specific absorption rate (SAR) within limits on surrounding tissues and skin. Features of UWB and safe acceptable SAR make the antenna suitable for its intended application.… Show more

“…The ultrawide‐band (UWB) microwave signal, for which can detect small tumors, is selected as the signal source for our baby's electromagnetic brain simulation model 4‐6 . Compared with the X‐ray source used in X‐ray imaging technology and X‐ray computed tomography (X‐CT) technology, the UWB microwave signal does little harm to human body.…”

“…source for our baby's electromagnetic brain simulation model. [4][5][6] Compared with the X-ray source used in X-ray imaging technology and X-ray computed tomography (X-CT) technology, the UWB microwave signal does little harm to human body. The ionizing radiation of X-ray can penetrate the cells, destroy the DNA structure of the cells, even induce the cell canceration, and do great harm to human body.…”

“…An increasing population and longer life spans have contributed to the rise of cancer. Breast cancer occurs because of the presence of malignant cells inside breast tissue [ 3 ]. At present, the most common killer of urban women is breast cancer, which has become a significant global health problem.…”
