“…The increase in perceived knowledge and comfort around management of AUD and OUD through this selfguided video-based curriculum is promising. Future steps include evaluating the remaining 5 videos in the curriculum, with which trainees may have less familiarity: Interpreting the Urine Drug Screen, Stimulant Use Disorder, Peripartum SUD, Adolescent SUD, and Chronic Pain and SUD, [40][41][42][43] disseminating this curriculum to other medical and surgical specialties, and coupling this videobased curriculum with case-based simulations or a structured clinical examination which allows for learner feedback and coaching. Additionally, incorporating techniques that include retrieval practice, feedback, and spaced repetitions into this video-based curriculum can potentially support longer term learning.…”

“…Inadequate provider education is a well-documented barrier to MOUD treatment, and evidence shows that some physicians find their 8-hour required buprenorphine training to be insufficient (Barry et al, 2009). Concurrently, calls are made for educational initiatives that increase MOUD delivery generally, specifying the importance of MOUD education within a racial/ethnic justice framework to better reach underserved populations (Bottner et al, 2021; Wilson & Bagley, 2022). Our study of APRN learner satisfaction with a novel 24-hour curriculum grounded in health equity revealed that nearly all students felt the education was beneficial to their professional development and that they had used and would continue using the educational content in their work.…”

“…North America is experiencing an unprecedented overdose crisis due largely to the presence of illicitly manufactured fentanyl and related analogues in local drug supplies (Ahmad, 2022; BC Coroners Service, 2022b ; Mattson et al, 2021 ; Public Health Agency of Canada, 2021 ). This drug toxicity crisis is having a devastating impact on young people who use drugs (YPWUD; referring here to individuals between the ages of 14 and 29) ( Wilson & Bagley, 2022 ). Since an overdose public health emergency was declared in British Columbia (BC), Canada, in 2016, over 2000 YPWUD under the age of 29 have died of an overdose ( BC Coroners Service, 2022a , 2022b ).…”

“…Not all fatalities in this setting are occurring among those who have received a diagnosis of opioid use disorder (OUD). However, research from North America and Europe has found that those with this diagnosis have higher rates of mortality and morbidity (European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction, 2020; Hser et al, 2015 ; Orpana et al, 2018 ; Wilson & Bagley, 2022 ).…”
