An UPnP-based context-aware framework for ubiquitous mesh home networks

Abstract: Wireless mesh networks are an appropriate solution for broadband home networks in order to establish a ubiquitous environment. One of the main challenges in ubiquitous networks is context-awareness and personalized service discovery. Many service discovery protocols have been proposed in the literature. The most significant is the Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) technology, based on the Simple Service Discovery Protocol (SSDP) and targeted for home network environment. However, the UPnP technology has some draw… Show more

“…It has proposed a technique that allows it to automatically connect sensors to an IoT solution using Transducer Electronic Data Sheet (TEDS) [221] and Sensor Markup Languages (SensorML) [133]. UPnP FRAMEWORK [206] is strongly related to a vision of the IoT where machine-to-machine communication play a significant role. This approach is applicable to devices such as cameras, web cams, and microwaves; but, not for low end temperature or humidity sensors.…”

“…In an HNW, an actuator is used to access a network. It will be attached to each of a variety of devices in the home: not only audio systems, air conditioners, illumination lamps, home appliances, sensors, and robots, but also doors, windows, curtains, and water faucets [1]- [5]. An HNW integrates the functions of these devices to provide convenient and easy-to-use services.…”
