An Upconversion Niobium Pentoxide Bulk Glass Codoped with Er3+/Yb3+ Fabricated by Aerodynamic Levitation Method

Abstract: 82x)NbO 2.5 -17.4LaO 1.5 -xZrO 2 (NLZ) (x = 7.5, 10, 12.5, 15, 17.5, and 20) bulk glasses codoped with Er 3+ /Yb 3+ were successfully fabricated by aerodynamic levitation method for the first time. The structure, thermal stability, and luminescent properties of the samples were investigated systemically by XRD, differential scanning calorimetry, and upconversion spectra. Under 980 nm laser excitation, all samples exhibited green and red upconversion emissions centered at 531, 546, and 674 nm. Results showed … Show more

“…In the glasses containing modified ions, the local environment of rare earth ions is defined preferentially by non-bridging oxygens [29]. In NLZ glass, Nb 2 O 5 is used as network modifier, which has non-bridging oxygens [21] and contributes to the glass matrix to host a high content of rare earth ions.…”

“…However, it's difficult to prepare bulk heavy-metal oxide glasses by conventional techniques. Containerless processing methods can constrain heterogeneous nucleation, obtain deep undercooling, and achieve fast solidification [13,14]. It's very favorable to fabricate new glasses which can't be obtained by conventional methods.…”

“…Rare‐earth (RE)‐doped glasses and glass‐ceramics have been extensively studied as important materials for wide applications in optical amplifier, optical fiber laser, up‐converter, etc . Up to the present, there are only few works that investigate the fabrication of RE‐doped glasses by levitation melting method . Here, we choose calcium aluminate glasses which have been proposed as materials for infrared windows, high‐strength optical fibers, and potential photomemory materials .…”
