An undifferentiated sarcoma in the cervical region in a horse

Abstract: Summary An Italian Saddle Horse mare was admitted for a hard, nonpainful mass localised in the cervical region. Clinical and diagnostic investigations were performed, which were suggestive of a multilobulated ossifying mass of neoplastic origin. Due to poor prognosis the horse was subjected to euthanasia. Post mortem computed tomography, anatomopathological examination and immunohistochemistry were used to make a definitive diagnosis of undifferentiated sarcoma in the cervical region.

“…Precise diagnosis via CT has been emphasized in order to avoid unviable treatment approaches [27]. Malignant and benign tumors of the nasal and paranasal sinuses including squamous cell carcinoma, undifferentiated carcinoma, hemangiosarcoma, nasal adenocarcinoma, myxoma, chondroblastic osteosarcoma, anaplastic sarcoma, and fibro-osseous lesions have been described [28][29][30][31]. Henninger et al provided detailed CT descriptions regarding the most common features of sinusitis and alveolitis [32].…”

[7][8][9][10][11][12] UPSs are one of the most commonly reported soft tissue sarcomas in human patients between 50 and 70years old. The main treatment modality in human medicine is aggressive surgical resection, with local recurrence evident in 13%-42% of patients and metastases in approximately one of three cases.…”
