An Unconventional Oral Candidiasis in an Immunocompetent Patient

Abstract: Oral candidiasis (OC) is an opportunistic fungal infection of the oral mucosae, sustained by Candida albicans or other non-albican Candida species (NAC), usually eradicated by conventional antifungals of the classes of azoles, polyenes, or derivative from echinocandins. OC usually occurs under predisposing local or systemic factors. C. lusitaniae is an opportunistic strain that is rarely responsible for human infection and occurs mainly in severe immunocompromised states. The present work reported an unconvent… Show more

“…rugosa are found much less frequently [5]. These species lack the classic virulence factors possessed by C. albicans in the form of the hyphal phenotype and the ability to adhere to the oral epithelium and high proteinase excretion and therefore cause less severe infections [4]. Among the infections caused by Candida spp., C. lusitaniae is responsible for 19.3% of fungemia in cancer patients and 1.7% of all cases of genitourinary candidiasis in ambulatory patients [2].…”

“…This increase in incidence seems to be multifactorial, with an increase in the number of immunocompromised individuals and the rising resistance to antifungal agents [ 2 ]. Candida infections have predominantly been found in individuals in the backdrop of prolonged broad-spectrum antibiotic use, immunosuppressive therapy use, blood or solid organ transplants, cancer, diabetes mellitus, or AIDS [ 4 ].…”

tics, orthopedic treatment and prevention of pathology of the maxillofacial system" (state registration number 0119U103951).Introduction.Candidiasis of the oral cavity is an opportunistic mycosis, the development of which depends on many factors. Yeast-like fungi of the genus Candida are representatives of the oral cavity microbiome from 40-60% to 80% of healthy people [1,2]. As a result of dysbiotic disturbances due to taking antibiotics, a decrease in the resistance properties of the body at the local and/or systemic level, associated with age factors, therapy with glucocorticosteroids, cytostatics, immunosuppressants, etc., the development of acquired immunodeficiencies, mechanical trauma of the mucous membrane due to wearing prostheses and many other factors, there is a
