An uncommon spontaneous right distal tubal pregnancy post bilateral laparoscopic sterilization

Abstract: Rationale:Tubal sterilization as a contraception method has a high success rate; however, it also carries a low risk of incidental pregnancy. A majority of these pregnancies are ectopic. In this study, we report a rare case of spontaneous right distal tubal pregnancy after bilateral laparoscopic tubal sterilization.Patient concerns:A 36-year-old woman who had undergone bilateral laparoscopic tubal sterilization presented with abdominal pain and a positive test for pregnancy.Diagnosis:Ectopic pregnancy was susp… Show more

“…They inferred that a micro fistula had formed and therefore sperm penetration was possible through the blunt end. 19 However, in the present case, intact bilateral fallopian tube stumps were observed while the distal fallopian stump was detached from the isthmus of the fallopian tube, which seems to exclude this explanation. Another hypothesis suggests that the fertilized ovum reached the retroperitoneal cavity through the lymphatic system in a mechanism similar to metastasis because lymphatic tissues have been detected in ectopic masses in post-surgical pathological analysis.…”

“… 12 Subsequently, Lin CM and Xue Ke documented a rare instance of a left ampullary ectopic pregnancy subsequent to the ligation of the left fallopian tube. 3 , 8 Both of these ectopic pregnancies occurred after resection of the ipsilateral proximal fallopian tube. In this case, distinct from the cases described in the literature above, the patient had previously undergone a left adnexectomy due to torsion of the pedicle of a left ovarian cyst, left part of the proximal fallopian tube tissue.…”

“… 6 , 7 Some tubal stump pregnancies occur secondary to post-tubal ligation. 3 , 8 We report a case of spontaneous tubal stump pregnancy after partial salpingectomy due to torsion of the left ovarian cyst pedicle.…”
