Extended AbstractA vehicle consists of many components such as chassis, engine, brake and steering system. While a vehicle is running, three axial forces and three moments are produced by interaction between the wheel and the ground. It is quite important to measure exactly those forces to improve the performance of the vehicle.Generally, a load cell is used for measuring force. But conventional load cell used in weighing scale is operated in static conditions. In this research, in order to measure three axial forces and moments at dynamic condition such as a car is running, we designed a new type wheel force sensor. The wheel force sensor is a kind of multi-axis load cell. It has a diskshaped body which consists of six sensing units [1][2][3][4].To apply this wheel force sensor to a running vehicle, a wireless type signal processing circuit is studied in this research [5][6]. The circuit is operated by the wireless power supply system. The power supply system consists of a resonant converter, a primary coil, a secondary coil and a rectifier circuit. The transmitting unit which consists of a resonant converter and a primary coil makes a magnetic field. Then the receiving unit which consists of a secondary coil and a rectifier circuit connects on the magnetic field [7]. And a rectifier circuit converts the AC voltage to DC voltage to enable to use at the wireless type signal processing circuit. The efficiency of the power supply system and the stability are affected by the combination of two coils and the frequency of the input voltage, because the power supply system is unstable when the frequency is unsuitable to system. This paper is about improving the efficiency of the wireless power supply system. Many different kinds of coils are tested, and we found a combination of coils which is ideal to improve the power supply system efficiently. Also we found the frequency of input voltage which is optimal to stabilize the power supply system of input voltage through a number of experiments.

Extended AbstractA vehicle wheel force sensor is used for measuring the forces and moments applied on the wheel, which is installed on between the vehicle wheel and power transmission axle [1][2][3][4]. The sensor must be very rugged and the shape is of pan cake type similar to the vehicle wheel. In order to obtain the measuring signals there are many strain gauges attached on the bridge beams. Conventional load cell used in weighing scale is operated in static conditions where the very narrow dynamic range is acceptable. However, since a vehicle runs very fast, the dynamic rage required for the wheel force sensor should be wide in very high frequency and the signal processing should be done in very short time. Furthermore, around the engine room it is noisy because of the engine.In this paper a signal processing circuit and algorithm are developed and tested for the sensor. The analogue signal amplifier circuit was designed theoretically and in simulation in order to remove the noise but have uniform gain over the working frequency range [5][6][7][8]. Obtaining the Bode diagram the performance is confirmed by a series of experiments. Because the wheel rotates continuously during the vehicle runs the coordinate of the sensor is changed according to the wheel rotation. Since vehicle designer, however, wants to know the reaction forces in the stationary coordinate, the obtained strain gage signals have to be converted to the forces in the coordinate. So, the signal processing algorithm and conversion formula are implemented using digital signal processor (DSP) and the processed output signal is transmitted to the data gathering computer via wired or wireless communication line [9,10].

A Study of an Efficient ZigBee Address Assignment Scheme for Home Area Networks of Smart Grid

In Home Area Network (HAN) of the smart grid, Power Line Communication (PLC) technology and ZigBee communication technology can be used in the communication among the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) devices. However, according to performance evaluation results of the PLC technology, we find that using the PLC technology is unsuitable for the remote meter reading service. It is worth noting that some parts of the PLC are converted to the ZigBee communication technology in Jeju, Korea. Compared with PLC, ZigBee has no restriction of the place, where the equipments can be freely set up, due to the advantage of radio communication. However, number of usable devices will impact the network performance which is depended on the address assignment. In addition, due to the restriction of transmission range among devices, it is difficult to apply the ZigBee address assignment method to the practical circumstance. In this paper, we examine the previous ZigBee address assignment schemes and the corresponding routing algorithms, and propose a novel address assignment scheme compared with the existing methods, the performance of the proposed one is improved. In particular, evaluation results show that the proposed scheme reduces the average number of hop count, the transfer time and the processing time.
