An IoT and Blockchain‐based approach for the smart water management system in agriculture

Abstract: Agriculture in rural areas facing critical issues such as irrigation with the increase in water crises followed by some other issues line seed quality, poor fertilizers and many others. The recent advances suggest that IoT and Blockchain Technology along with artificial intelligence will be most dominant technologies in near future. In this article, the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) with Blockchain technology is implemented for monitoring agricultural fields efficiently. An efficient seed quality mon… Show more

“…The research mainly focuses on the integrated application of trusted encryption mechanism, Internet of Things technology and blockchain technology to ensure the trusted interaction of data. For example, Zeng et al designed an efficient seed quality monitoring and smart water management system using IoT and blockchain technology to manage and coordinate the use of high-quality seeds and water resources in the community [ 44 ]. Vangala et al designed a new authenticated key agreement mechanism envisioned in smart contract-based blockchains in the context of smart agriculture to enhance the persistence and auditability of data stored in blocks [ 45 ].…”

“…References [ 40 , 41 , 42 , 43 ] innovated and improved the blockchain architecture, but lacked details regarding the application, such as security, consensus efficiency, etc. References [ 44 , 45 , 46 , 47 , 48 , 49 ] improve the secure interaction of data and the efficiency of consensus, but the blockchain architecture they adopt renders it difficult to carry the complex data characteristics of agricultural and food supply chains. However, the increasingly frequent and diverse data requests and operations in the rice supply chain urgently need to improve the application of blockchain, mainly in the following aspects.…”

“…The proposed system in [27] comprises three different controllers: electro-pumps, water reservoirs, and pump stations in conjunction with restricted user access for security purposes. Another perspective was offered in [28] and [29], which proposed the integration of Blockchain with constrained IoT devices to measure water consumption. The authors of [28] indicated that the increase in power consumption due to the integration of the proposed Blockchain architecture required additional 6% of energy as compared to classical systems that operate without the Blockchain inclusion; however such a system provides trusted sensing devices over public Blockchain networks.…”

“…An efficient system for industrial and construction waste management systems incorporates the estimation of recycling and reusing quantities and the methods for storing and reducing construction waste [15]. This project is not limited to industrial applications but the overall growth of social life with the integration of the Internet of Things, AI, and robotics [16][17][18][19].…”
