“…A zebrafish larvae model was established for in vivo studies of diabetes mellitus with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (DM‐HFrEF) by sequentially treating them with a combination of d ‐glucose (Kim et al., 2023), STZ and terfenadine, a potassium channel blocker. Diabetic zebrafish treated with terfenadine showed significantly less myocardial fractional shortening, more irregular contractions, significant increase in the levels of natriuretic peptide B (a heart failure biomarker), markedly reduced motility and reduced survival rates (Larijani et al., 2021; Kim et al., 2023).
