An Overview of Prevalence and Treatment of Mycotic Keratitis in India and other Countries in the Indian Subcontinent

Abstract: Mycotic keratitis is a sight-threatening disease, caused by infection of the cornea by filamentous fungi or yeasts. This paper reviews data on the prevalence, diagnosis, therapy and prevention of mycotic keratitis in different states in India, and in other countries, namely Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Bhutan, in the Indian subcontinent. In vivo confocal microscopy and molecular techniques(polymerase chain reaction) have improved management of the condition.
