An Overview of Medical Management of Acute Decompensated Heart Failure

Abstract: ADHF is a heterogeneous clinical syndrome that usually leads to hospitalization due to a combination of interconnected renal dysfunction, cardiac dysfunction, and vascular compliance. Hospitalizations from ADHF are linked to increased morbidity and mortality, with about half of the patients on readmission within six months and short-term cardiac mortality. Importantly, the overall long-term outcome is still poor, combining rates of cardiovascular death, hospitalization for heart failure, myocardial infarction,… Show more

“…Bacterial pneumonia is a possible cause of bronchospasm which can be identified using the chest x-ray, however, the patient does not have fever followed by a severe bacteria infection. Arterial blood gas levels will be extremely important if the patient has signs of respiratory distress [20]. NB: You must suspect an imminent respiratory failure if a patient with acute exacerbation of asthma and a respiratory rate greater than normal has normal ABG level [21].…”

“…Sustained ventricular tachycardia refers to a ventricular rhythm faster than 100 beats per minute usually lasting a minimum of 30 seconds or requiring intervention earlier due to hemodynamic instability. It often results in presyncope, syncope, hypotension, and cardiac arrest [9]. Treatment is an effort to address a health issue, usually in response to a diagnosis.…”
