The land registry system is one of the essential components of any governance model required to ascertain the ownership records uniquely. This paper reviews the existing literature and provides a detailed literature review consisting of 3 stages based on three research questions (RQ) that highlight the step by step evaluation and analysis. We selected 48 primary articles out of 477 extracted from different scientific databases based on criteria and RQ defined in the research method section. The majority of these papers focus on assessing the identity issues related to the land registry system and reviewing the existing identity models to find the best possible identity model to resolve the identified identity problems in the land registry. This paper examines the current land registry model and its shortcomings. It explains the various blockchain types and their characteristics. It further evaluates the usability of blockchain technology in different aspects of the land registry. Identity management is one of such weaknesses in the blockchain-based land registry model that has been assessed in detail. Identity issues of blockchain-based models have been further evaluated on defined criteria. The paper ends with a discussion on possible identity models and their comparative analysis to ascertain the most suitable identity model to resolve the identity issues of land registry systems.

Creating and utilizing digital identities are fundamental steps towards accessing online services. In order to facilitate the management of user identities, the concept of identity management has been introduced. Various systems and protocols have been developed to manage online identities. However, these systems are provider-centric, focusing on aiding providers in managing their user bases. As a result, users often have limited control over their identity data and remain unaware of how centralized identity providers use or potentially misuse their data. Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) has emerged as a new paradigm in the digital identity management landscape, aiming to empower users by allowing them greater control over their identity data. Although SSI is a relatively new domain, there have been numerous efforts, primarily from the industry, to introduce SSI standards, protocols, and systems, with multiple options in each category. Researchers eager to contribute to the SSI domain might find it challenging to understand the interconnections among these components. Notably, the SSI domain faces several challenges, as highlighted in various research works. These challenges must be addressed before SSI can achieve widespread adoption. With the pandemic of COVID-19, people around the world increasingly work from home. Each natural person typically has several digital identities with different associated information. During the last years, various identity and access management approaches have gained attraction, helping for example to access other organizations' services within trust boundaries. The resulting heterogeneity creates a high complexity to differentiate between these approaches and scenarios as participating entity; combining them is even harder. Last but not least, various actors have a different understanding or perspective of the terms, like "service", in this context. Our paper describes a reference service with standard components in generic federated identity management. This is utilized with modern Enterprise Architecture using the framework ArchiMate. The proposed universal federated identity management service model (FIMSM) is applied to describe various federated identity management scenarios in a generic service-oriented way. The presented reference design is approved in multiple aspects and is easily applicable in numerous scenarios.
