The purpose of this work lies in the use of ionic liquids as corrosion inhibitors due to the difficulty in some oil fields with the solubility of corrosion inhibitors and these materials can be miscible with water and thus provide a solution to such problems in the industry. The second purpose is concerned with the lower toxicity of these compounds compared with the most common corrosion inhibitors. The study covered the corrosion inhibition performance of the ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethyl sulfonate ([BMIm]TfO) for carbon steel in 3.5% NaCl solutions. The study comprised electrochemical, adsorption, and quantum chemical investigations. The results manifested that [BMIm]TfO can be considered a promising corrosion inhibitor and the inhibition efficacy intensifies as the concentration rises. The observed inhibitive effect can be correlated to the adsorption of the ionic liquid species and the creation of protecting films on the surface. The mode of adsorption follows the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The polarization results showed that the ionic liquid [BMIm]TfO functions as a mixed inhibitor. Reliance of the corrosion influence on the temperature in the existence and absence of [BMIm]TfO was demonstrated in the temperature range of 303–333 K using polarization data. Activation parameters were determined and discussed. The observed inhibition performance of [BMIm]TfO was correlated with the electronic properties of the ionic liquid using a quantum chemical study.

Corrosion and its protection are one of the major challenges that are faced by the industries. To overcome this, new coatings with characteristic properties which are environmentally friendly are introduced. A cost-effective and most reliable way of corrosion protection is via barrier coatings, in which water-based epoxy coatings showed significant corrosion resistance. Although the epoxy coating creates a barrier between the metal and the corroding ions, there is a chance of leakage due to mechanical rupture and the formation of micropores during the curing time of the epoxy. This leads to the incorporation of inhibitors into the epoxy coatings which in turn increase the corrosion resistance. This review discusses the different types of inhibitors that are incorporated into the epoxy coating to prevent corrosion. The use of Nano/micro containers for the encapsulation of the inhibitors leads to the discovery of self-healing smart coatings. Such water-based epoxy smart coatings are also discussed.

In the global business environment, sustainability has become a competitive priority of most enterprises. Sustainability as a differentiation approach enables organizations to compete in today's environment. However, despite the increasing adaptability to sustainability practices, pharmaceutical supply chain management is still facing challenges in preserving the global environment. The study contemplates the impact of sustainable supply chain strategy and sustainable competitive advantage while considering the mediating role of sustainable supply chain practice and moderating role of sustainability inhibitors. The data was collected from the 180 employees working in the pharmaceutical companies of Pakistan. The study applied a quantitative approach for testing a theoretical model, using discriminant validity analysis, assessment of measurement model, composite reliability & validity analysis to assess the dimensions and model's reliability and validity. The study results show a positive relationship between sustainable supply chain strategy and sustainable competitive advantage. Sustainable supply chain practice mediates the relationship between sustainable supply chain strategy and sustainable competitive advantage, while sustainability inhibitors strengthen the relationship between sustainable supply chain strategy and sustainable supply chain practice. This study will help managers develop impactful sustainable supply chain management practices that will lead to sustainable performance.
