Ya Yao,
Xinyuan Wang,
Lei Luo
et al.

Abstract: In recent decades, the application of GIS and RS in archaeological and cultural heritage (ACH) has witnessed a notable surge both in terms of quantity and scope. During the initial implementation period (2016–2021) of the Digital Belt and Road Heritage (DBAR-Heritage) working group, several instances of GIS-RS-based applications in support of cultural heritage conservation have merged. In this paper, in order to discuss the great potential of GIS and RS on the Silk Road, an overview of GIS- and RS-based applic… Show more

“…Introduction 1.1. From GIS to 3D WebGIS for the Humanities Geographical information system (GIS) platforms have been proven to be an effective analysis tool not only in different fields, especially in cultural heritage (CH) [1][2][3], but also in studying historical data (like maps, drawings, and statistical data), becoming historical GIS (HGIS) [4]. Having data stored in a structured way, as in GIS, allows the performance of queries on large records that could be challenging for a human, demonstrating effectiveness in analyzing phenomena's evolution over time, such as in the cases of historical earthquakes [5] or political boundaries changing [6].…”
