An Overview of Algae for Biodiesel Production Using Bibliometric Indicators

Abstract: Algae are a desirable biodiesel feedstock because they take up little space, have a high algal-cell biomass per unit area, and can sustainably meet a large portion of the world’s future energy needs. Using several bibliometric indicators, this study assesses the research productivity of algae for biodiesel production. The dataset was retrieved from the Scopus database using an appropriate keyword search. The VOSviewer v1.6.18 and Biblioshiny in R … Show more

“…In this regard, microalgae are a rich source of valuable compounds, including proteins, lipids, pigments, and carbohydrates, which have significant economic potential [ 3 , 4 ]. For instance, the lipids extracted from microalgae can be converted into biodiesel, which is a clean-burning alternative to traditional diesel fuel [ 5 ]. Thus, microalgae are used to produce biofuels, which are renewable energy sources that have the potential to replace fossil fuels [ 6 , 7 ].…”

“…Limited fossil fuel availability together with environmental concerns has triggered the need for renewable energy. Biodiesel, a clean fuel comprising fatty acid alkyl esters, is a promising replacement for fossil fuel due to its biodegradability, renewability, and low emissions of hydrocarbon, SO 2 , and CO 2 [1,2]. In addition, biodiesel is adaptable to existing diesel engine with or without blending with petroleum due to its combustion efficiency [3][4][5].…”
