“…We previously investigated the antioxidative and anti-inflammatory activity of some natural and synthetic phenols, which are NSAID-like compounds possessing high antioxidative activity. We found that, in particular, ortho -dimer phenols, bis -BHA (3,3′-di-t-butyl-5,5′-dimethoxy-1,1′-biphenyl-2,2′diol), showed good radical-scavenging activity and also inhibited Pg fimbria-stimulated inflammatory cytokine expression and NF- κ B activation in RAW264.7 cells [68]. In addition, we have confirmed that magnolol and/or honokiol, which are hydroxylated biphenyl compounds isolated from Magnolia officinalis , inhibit the fimbria-stimulated COX-2 expression resulting from NF- κ B activation in the same cells (data not shown).…”
