An organomercury enzyme activator as a versatile template for new organomercury(II) compounds encompassing homobimetallic (RHg/Hg) and heterobimetallic (RHg/Cd) compositions: Syntheses, photoluminescence and structures

Abstract: A series of pale yellow imine-functionalized acetyloxy(4-(arylideneamino)phenyl)mercury(II) compounds (2-7) were obtained by the reactions of acetyloxy(4-aminophenyl)mercury(II) (1) with arylaldehydes in equimolar ratios in absolute ethanol under reflux conditions. Organomercury compounds 2-5 and 7, when treated with 1,5-diphenylthiocarbazone (dptc) in chloroform, formed dark-red (4-((E)-arylideneamino)phenyl)(((Z)-((E)-phenyldiazenyl) (2-phenylhydrazono)methyl)thio)mercury compounds (8e12) in alkaline medium.… Show more

“…The overall coordination geometry at Hg(2) cannot easily be described by any classical shape, but is perhaps most closely associated with a distorted square pyramid where atom N(4') is at the apex. A similar asymmetric geometry for a bidentate acetate ligand and long linking Hg-N distance were observed in the polymeric chain structure of acetyloxy(4-aminophenyl)mercury(II) [8].…”

“…Compound 1 is a further example of the series of similar bimetallic complexes whose crystal structures were reported earlier (compounds LHgCl 2 .DMSO, LHgCl 2 .DMF and LCdCl 2 .DMF) [8]. In these complexes, chloride ligands were present instead of thiocyanate and either dimethylformamide (DMF) or dimethylsulfoxide, the solvents used for crystallization, had become coordinated to atom Hg(1) (atom Cd(1) in LCdCl 2 .DMF), which was thus five-coordinate.…”
