An Optimized Network Selection and Handover Triggering Scheme for Heterogeneous Self-Organized Wireless Networks

Abstract: Optimizing the balance between different handover parameters for network selection is one of the challenging tasks for seamless communication in heterogeneous networks. Traditional approaches for network selection are mostly based on the Receive Signal Strength (RSS) from the Point of Attachment (PoA) of a network. Most of these schemes are suffered from high handover delay, false handover indications, and inappropriate network selection for handover. To address these problems, we present an optimized network … Show more

“…The application of WLAN is restricted to static or pedestrian navigation environment [27]. For example, authors in [21,[28][29][30] predefined the speed threshold for WLAN at 10m/s and below (depending on the radius of WLAN). In addition, Fuzzy MADM based handover algorithm presented by [25] and [31] set the fuzzy if-else rule, "if MT velocity is low then the probability of rejecting WLAN is low; else the probability of rejecting WLAN is high".…”

“…These decision schemes include the well-known and famous decision modelling such as TOSPSIS [12], grey relational analysis (GRA) [13], Vlsekriterijumska optimizacija I KOmpromisno Resenje (VIKOR) [14], and ELimination Et Choix Traduisantla REalite (ELECTRE) [15], and analytical hierarchy process (AHP) [16]. In the case of TOPSIS, an optimal network is selected for handover if it is closer to the ideal situation from other networks.…”
