An Optimized Adaptive Protection Scheme for Numerical and Directional Overcurrent Relay Coordination Using Harris Hawk Optimization

Abstract: The relay coordination problem is of dire importance as it is critical to isolate the faulty portion in a timely way and thus ensure electrical network security and reliability. Meanwhile a relay protection optimization problem is highly constraint and complicated problem to be addressed. To fulfill this purpose, Harris Hawk Optimization (HHO) is adapted to solve the optimization problem for Directional Over-current Relays (DOCRs) and numerical relays. As it is inspired by the intelligent and collegial chasing… Show more

“…Equation (11) means that the distribution center cannot dispatch vehicles if it is not selected. Equation (12) means that there must be a vehicle dispatched from the distribution center and pass through the demand point if the demand point is served by the distribution center. Equation ( 13) is used to prevent the creation of sub-tour.…”

“…He used the improved HHO as a metaheuristic tool for the threshold segmentation method of brain magnetic resonance images. Irfan [12] adapted HHO to solve the optimization problem for directional over-current relays and numerical relays. Piri [28] introduced HHO to solve the multi-target optimization problem of feature selection.…”

“…Recently, heuristic algorithm methods have excited serious enthusiasm due to their adaptability, flexibility, and strength in looking for an ideal and global optimum solution [32]. Due to the way that GA is a multipoint seeking technique, as opposed to the conventional single point search methods, GA guarantees reaching the ideal and global optimum point [33]. In CGA, the factors and variables are denoted by floating point numbers.…”

“…In order to analyze the fault as early as possible, coordination of the protection relay along with configuration is an important aspect. Earlier, different methods were used to obtain the overcurrent protection relay configuration [2], and different optimization techniques were deployed to solve various electrical engineering and relay coordination problems [3][4][5][6]. Linear programming was used for the relay coordination in order to obtain the optimal time multiplier setting (TMS) for the relays [7].…”
