An optimal energy efficient cooperative retransmission MAC scheme in wireless networks

Abstract: Abstract-While the benefits of cooperative diversity have been well studied in the literature, cooperative MAC protocol design has also attracted much attention recently. In the singlerelay Cooperative Automatic Repeat reQuest (C-ARQ) protocol, the best relay node is selected in a distributed manner by relays using different backoff time before packet retransmission. However, this relay selection scheme does not work efficiently in a dense network scenario, due to possible high collision probability among diff… Show more

“…Similarly, another approach to tackle the frequent data retransmission problem is by minimizing collisions through changing the contention window ranges, by applying an additive increase and multiplicative algorithm and by modifying the superframe periods in line with the application requirements. For instance, authors of [123,124] proposed the use of a hybrid automatic repeat request policy to address retransmission issue. As a consequence, further research could still be conducted on designing a cooperative and energy efficient retransmission policy.…”

“…He and Li [10] propose the single-relay Cooperative Automatic Repeat Request (CARQ) protocol, in which the relay node is selected in a distributed manner; the relays use different backoff time before packet retransmission. In a dense network, due to high possible collision probability among different contending relays, an optimized relay selection scheme is introduced to maximize system energy efficiency by reducing collision probability.…”
