An Operational Safety Evaluation Method for Manned Transport Aircraft and Large UAV in Mixed Airspace

Abstract: To improve the predictive ability in trajectory of large unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and the calculation performance in complicated circumstances with mixed airspace, multiple aircraft types, and joint operations, the concept of phased trajectory deviation (PTD) is introduced and a corresponding minimal interval algorithm (PTD-MI) is set up. This algorithm is capable of deriving the minimal interval between various aircraft types according to the crosswind impacts and the UAV characteristics at different fli… Show more

“…A variety of methods have been applied to assess the flight safety in integrated airspace [9,13]. A category of existing methods involves improving traditional path planning algorithms [14] to research the low-altitude collision avoidance problem, such as the well-known A ⋆ algorithm [15], the rapidly exploring random tree algorithm [16], and the model predictive control algorithm [17].…”

“…The widespread use of UAV technology in various industries is causing higher demands for the development of high-altitude transportation research. In order to make the airspace capacity within a fixed altitude range match with the increasing traffic flow, the navigation, monitoring, data preprocessing and other technologies of UAVs should be improved so as to ensure the safety of airspace transportation [6][7][8]. All-airspace flight is now an inevitable trend in its application due to the rapid development of UAV technology.…”
