An Open Robot Simulator Environment

Abstract: At present, various kinds of robots such as AIBO, ASIMO and etc, are available in public. However, the development of robots is still having some difficulties since of their complexity, continual changes of environments, limitation of resources and etc. To overcome this problem, robot developers often use the simulator that allows to program and test robots' program effectively under ideal environmental conditions where specified various conditions can easily be reproduced. It is still difficult to realize the… Show more

“…We show how POS, which is inherently a symbolic abstract system, can be neatly integrated with it : the system presented here is indeed what is called a hybrid system [16], whose originality is again its multiagent facet. The next sections present in details the experimental setup (a 2D soccer robot simulator as opposed to a 3D simulator [23] or vision-based robot simulation environment [14]) as well as the internal architecture of the robotic agents we used.…”

“…The AISim simulator from the ASURA Robocup team [4,22] is one of the open-source simulators available for the specific simulation of Aibo within the Robocup environment. This simulator allows for the simulation of a soccer match, including all types of interesting processes like vision processing, planning and behavior generation, but not including a detailed simulation of the Aibo robot, which is treated as a unique block.…”

“…The dog-type robot called AIBO has attracted a lot of people (Golubovic et al, 2003) (Ishimura et al, 2003) (Kerepesi et al, 2006), especially women and aged people who wanted to have a pet. Also, a walking robot called ASIMO by Honda surprised many people by its walking demonstration (Ishimura et al, 2003). In addition to these pioneers, currently various types of humanoid and pet robots are being studied and developed in many universities, company laboratories, and venture companies.…”
