Device miniaturization is an emerging advanced technology in the 21st century. The miniaturization of devices in different fields requires production of micro-and nano-scale components. The features of these components range from the sub-micron to a few hundred microns with high tolerance to many engineering materials. These fields mainly include optics, electronics, medicine, bio-technology, communications, and avionics. This paper reviewed the recent advances in micro-and nano-machining technologies, including micro-cutting, micro-electrical-discharge machining, laser micro-machining, and focused ion beam machining. The four machining technologies were also compared in terms of machining efficiency, workpiece materials being machined, minimum feature size, maximum aspect ratio, and surface finish.

WprowadzenieW obróbce elektroerozyjnej (EDM) naddatek jest usuwany z przedmiotu obrabianego w wyniku zjawisk towarzyszą-cym wyładowaniom elektrycznym (wydzielanie ciepła, wzrost temperatury, parowanie, topienie i rozrywanie materiału) w obszarze pomiędzy przedmiotem obrabianym a elektrodą roboczą. Szczelina między elektrodowa wypeł-niona jest cieczą dielektryczną, której zadaniem jest m.in. usunięcie produktów erozji z przestrzeni międzyelektrodo-wej. Twardość materiału obrabianego nie wpływa na przebieg procesu, a siły występujące między narzędziem a materiałem są znikome. W związku z tym, obróbka elektroerozyjna jest racjonalną alternatywą przy kształtowaniu elementów wykonanych z materiałów trudno obrabialnych klasycznymi metodami tj.: utwardzona stal, węgliki, stopy o wysokiej wytrzymałości, super twarde materiały przewodzą-ce prąd elektryczny (np. materiały kompozytowe na osnowie metalicznej, ceramika). Obróbka ta umożliwia także drąże-nie smukłych otworów, gdzie stosunek średnicy do głęboko-ści jest znacznie mniejszy niż 1/10 [1]. Podczas wiercenia elektroerozyjnego elektroda robocza pełni funkcję wiertła, wykonując ruch posuwowy oraz obrotowy. Do mikrowiercenia metodą elektroerozyjną stosowane są elektrody rurkowe (dielektryk jest dostarczany poprzez wcześniej wywiercony otwór) [2].Podczas wiercenia elektroerozyjnego elektrodą w kształ-cie rurki, zużycie występuje na długości (tzn. następuje skrócenie elektrody) oraz ścianach bocznych [3]. W wyniku takiego zużycia elektrody roboczej, wywiercony otwór ma kształt rożka. Wysokie zużycie elektrody ma wpływ także na stabilność, dokładność oraz wydajność procesu. Możliwość wiercenia głębokich otworów jest ograniczona jedynie przez gromadzenie na dnie otworu kawałków obrobionego materiału, co powoduje nieprawidłowe wyładowania, szczególnie gdy otwór jest wiercony głęboko. Również powstające podczas procesu pęcherzyki gazowe, blokujące wpłynięcie dielektryka do obszaru obróbki, mogą ograniczać smukłość otworu [4]. Jednak w przypadku wiercenia głębokich mikrootworów w metalu, mikrowiercenie elektroerozyjne stanowi jedną z najbardziej efektywnych metod. W przypadku mikroob...

Electric discharge machining drill (EDM-drill) is an efficient process for the fabrication of micro-diameter deep metal hole. As there is non-physical contact between tool (electrode) and workpiece, EDM-drill is widely used to machine the hard machining materials such as high strength steel, cemented carbide, titanium alloys. The electro-thermal energy forces the electrode to wear out together with the workpiece to be machined. The electrode wear occurs inside of a machining hole. and It causes hard to monitor the machining state, which leads the productivity and the quality to decrease. Thus, this study presents a methodology to estimated the electrode wear amount while two coefficients (scale factor and shape factor) of the logarithmic regression model are evaluated from the experiment result. To increase the accuracy of estimation model, the linear transformation method is adopted using the differences of initial electrode wear differences. The estimation model is verified through experiment. The experimental result shows that within minute error, the estimation model is able to predict accurately.
