An intra-annual 30-m dataset of small lakes of the Qilian Mountains for the period 1987–2020

Abstract: Small lakes (areas between 0.01 km2 and 1 km2) on the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau (QTP) are prone to fluctuations in number and area, with serious implications for the surface water storage and water and carbon cycles of this fragile environment. However, there are no detailed long-term datasets of the small lakes of the QTP. Therefore, the intra-annual changes of small lakes in the Qilian Mountains region (QMR) in the northeastern part of the QTP were investigated. The small lake water bodies (SLWB) in the QMR were… Show more

“…The temperature is warm which is relatively distributed throughout the year with mean annual rainfall ranging from 900 mm to 1050 mm. The vegetation falls within the Sudan Savanna belt of Nigeria and is best referred to as combretaceous woodland savanna [11,12]. The Senatorial District consists of Five Local Governments namely; Mubi-North, Mubi-South, Maiha, Michika and Madagali.…”

“…Therefore, the QMR was divided into six basins to reveal the spatio-temporal patterns and driving mechanisms of SLWBs in each basin. The six basins include the Danghe River and Shule River (DSB), Shiyang River and Datong River Basin (SDB), Beida River and Heihe River Basin (BHB), Haleteng River and Bayinguole River Basin (HBB), Hala Lake Basin (HLB), and Qinghai Lake Basin (QLB) [40].…”

“…For instance, a threshold of 100% denotes that one Landsat pixel observed during a specific year is identified as a water body. This database has been validated for accuracy and has a high precision [40]. More descriptions can be found in Li et al [40].…”
