An Interactive Traffic Signal Optimization Approach with Dynamic Variable Guidance Lane Control

Abstract: The purpose of setting up variable guidance lanes is to ease the traffic pressure on lanes with more traffic under the condition of ensuring the traffic capacity of the intersection. This study proposes a bi-level model-interactive relationship between variable guidance lane design and signal control and carry out a case study for a road in Wuhan, China. The design plan for the goal, combined with the design plan of the variable guidance lane, optimizes the signal timing plan of the intersection. A real case i… Show more

“…based on the delay and queue length model, the optimization of signal timing by combining with available phase green time, available phase red time, reversible lane function switching control, and other factors has not been fully considered. Meanwhile, the sensitivity and efectiveness of feedback after applying the optimization models have not been investigated [1].…”

“…For intersections, signal control schemes can optimize the dynamic distribution of time resources, which is often limited by static spatial resources. However, even though the signal control timing is optimized, the corresponding improvement is very limited [1]. Terefore, the reversible trafc management is an important approach which can efectively combine signal timing and lane functions to solve the unbalanced problem of diferent turning directions of trafc fows at intersections.…”
