An integrated transparent, UV-filtering organohydrogel sensor via molecular-level ion conductive channels

Abstract: Transparent, UV-filtered, anti-freezing, and moisture-retention organohydrogel-based sensors are prepared by incorporating ions/microparticles into a binary solvent system.

“…In contrast, the residual mass of the hydrogel without LiCl reduced to only 40%. The water-retention capacity of PAAm-collagen hydrogel in comparison with orther hydrogels was shown in Table S3 [ 41,[48][49][50][51]. Due to the excellent water retention ability, the PAAm-collagen hydrogel still possessed high mechanical property and conductivity after being stored at 25°C for 7 days (Fig.…”

“…For instance, the palm prints are clearly seen through the PAM-5 hydrogel. The anti-UV effect of the hydrogel is mostly derived from the absorption of UV light by the benzene ring (from SL and TA) [4]. Figure 2c shows that the TA@SL-PAM hydrogel can use conductive Ca 2+ to achieve the circuit connectivity (0.91 S/m).…”

“…Moreover, the antibacterial and antioxidant properties are advantageous to CHs in preparing static electrodes suitable for long-term physiological monitoring. More importantly, ultraviolet (UV) protection seems to be essential because people are extremely susceptible to UV radiation from sunlight [4]. Unfortunately, it is difficult to prepare a hydrogel combing multi-functional properties simultaneously.…”

“…Owing to the distinct antifreezing and antidehydration properties, the organohydrogel has aroused great interest among researchers since it was introduced [ 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 , 22 ]. Various organohydrogels and organohydrogel-based applications have emerged recently, and the glycerol [ 14 , 15 , 22 , 23 , 24 , 25 , 26 ], ethylene glycol (EG) [ 13 , 15 , 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 , 31 ], DMSO [ 32 , 33 ], and sorbitol [ 15 , 34 ] are widely used. There are two popular strategies to fabricate organohydrogels.…”

“…At the same time, Lu and coworkers synthesized the adhesive and conductive organohydrogel with long-lasting liquid retention at the temperature range from −20 to 60 °C by in situ polymerization in the glycerol–water binary solvent [ 14 ]. Since then, various organohydrogels were prepared by in-situ gelling in the organic–water binary solvent [ 25 , 26 , 29 , 30 , 31 , 32 , 33 , 35 , 36 , 37 , 38 , 39 ]. The second synthesis strategy is to soak the preformed hydrogel in the organic or organic–water binary solvent for solvent displacement [ 15 ].…”
