An Integrated Hybrid Power Supply for Distributed Generation Applications Fed by Nonconventional Energy Sources

Abstract: Abstract-A new, hybrid integrated topology, fed by photovoltaic (PV) and fuel cell (FC) sources and suitable for distributed generation applications, is proposed. It works as an uninterruptible power source that is able to feed a certain minimum amount of power into the grid under all conditions. PV is used as the primary source of power operating near maximum power point (MPP), with the FC section (block), acting as a current source, feeding only the deficit power. The unique "integrated" approach obviates th… Show more

“…This will require a more predictable and reliable performance, which will open the way to implement hybrid generation technologies and integrate ESS into PV power plants [3]. Some research has already been carried on guaranteeing a more predictable production of PV systems, combining them with different technologies such as: hydrogen fuel cells [4], together with wind power [5], or even batteries [6], mainly focusing on small grids or stand-alone PV power plants [7]. This paper deals with the integration of Lithium ion (Liion) batteries into big PV power plants connected to the EPS.…”

“…An uninterrupted integrated hybrid power supply is offered to the grid and a small amount of PV power can be fed into the grid. β Method in fast MPPT scheme with suitable modification is implemented here [73] with maximum insolation and high temperature. A control system is realized with a fuel cell generation device in a photovoltaic-wind existing plant and function of the plant is carried out with the combination of diesel generator and battery [74].…”

“…Among those renewable sources, PV generation is becoming increasingly attractive due to availability of resources and environmental benefits. As the penetration of PV schemes increases it can have a significant impact on the power system's operation and stability and hence it is significantly important to control the output power [1].…”
