An Integrated Geometric and Material Survey for the Conservation of Heritage Masonry Structures

Abstract: This paper reports the knowledge process and the analyses performed to assess the seismic behavior of a heritage masonry building. The case study is a three-story masonry building that was the house of the Renaissance architect and painter Giorgio Vasari (the Vasari’s House museum). An interdisciplinary approach was adopted, following the Italian “Guidelines for the assessment and mitigation of the seismic risk of the cultural heritage”. This document proposes a methodology of investigation and analysis based … Show more

“…Research in the field of cultural heritage is proving to be more and more complex, increasingly using knowledge from other fields, which reflects its interdisciplinary nature. Modern technology, which proves a very fast and wide development, is extremely useful in the field of cultural heritage research because it offers a permanent technological support in the activities of documentation, conservation, 3D reconstruction, promotion (Betti et al, 2021;Carnevali et al, 2019;Herman et al, 2020;Martín-Lerones et al, 2021;Nistor et al, 2011;Rădulescu et al, 2021;Sun et al, 2020;Xiao et al, 2018;Xu et al, 2021).…”

“…The information thus collected may also be used to evaluate old infrastructure and build a modeling and simulation model. The following studies employed similar technologies (Dall’Asta et al 2019 ; Betti et al 2021 ). When required, detailed assessment and available Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) assessment methods are preferred (Stepinac et al 2020 ).…”

“…As the building is under heritage protection, special rules and integrated geometric survey for the conservation should be applied [26]. Similar to the paper by Milić et al [27] a detailed survey of the external dimensions and façade was created to preserve its architectural value.…”
