An Integrated Decision Framework for Material Selection Procedure: A Case Study in a Detergent Manufacturer

Abstract: The new product development process (NPD) is considered to be the key factor of competition among different markets. The identification of a suitable material is an important issue in the conception and improvement of new products. Material selection is seen as an important multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) problem in engineering because of the requirement of considering multiple criteria from different dimensions. Improper material selection may negatively affect the success of a firm. The purpose of this… Show more

“…The company selection problem and the risk for an event was used to illustrate the use of the operator. Dursun and Arslan [50] combined the quality function development (QFD), linguistic hierarchies, and 2-tuple fuzzy linguistic, and COPRAS value for selecting the most appropriate material in the manufacturing of detergents. The development criteria for a new product was obtained using the QFD and the criteria weight from experts, then an assessment of the alternatives was conducted using the COPRAS method.…”

“…Wu et al proposed a novel method for collaborative computer aided design (Co-CAD) synchronization, in which all Co-CAD sites maintain symmetric and consistent operating procedures [27]. Dursun et al developed an integrated decision framework for material selection procedure [28]. Yang et al presented a prototype of a decision-making system that uses agent-based modeling to simulate deep foundation pit evacuation in the presence of collapse disaster [29].…”

“…Considering the distribution and symmetry of the planning and decision-making processes in the shipbuilding projects, an appropriate decision-making method and tool to assist the participants to make better decisions is extremely important. There are many researches on symmetric decision-making theory, including the decision-making model [19][20][21][22][23] and decision-making system modeling [24][25][26][27][28][29]. The purpose of this paper is to provide effective decision-making methods for project participants.…”

“…Fuzzy logic was used by Zhang [29] to assess commercial viability of technology start-up businesses in a government venture capital, while Shen and Tzeng [30] developed a fuzzy inferenceenhanced VC-DRSA model for technical analysis of the investment. Other researches have been conducted in the area of: knowledge management performance measurement of small and medium enterprises [31], social behavior modeling [32], measuring customer loyalty [33], e-commerce [34], MADM (multi-attribute decision-making) [35][36][37][38][39][40][41], material selection [42], risk assessment [43], medical diagnosis [44], mobile robots [45], investment selection [46] and forecasting [47].…”
