An Information-Centric Communication Infrastructure for Real-Time State Estimation of Active Distribution Networks

Abstract: Abstract-The evolution toward emerging active distribution networks (ADNs) can be realized via a real-time state estimation (RTSE) application facilitated by the use of phasor measurement units (PMUs). A critical challenge in deploying PMU-based RTSE applications at large scale is the lack of a scalable and flexible communication infrastructure for the timely (i.e., sub-second) delivery of the high volume of synchronized and continuous synchrophasor measurements. We address this challenge by introducing a comm… Show more

“…Information Centric Networking (ICN) has been proposed as a network architecture which enables native content/data awareness by the underlying network, including content searching/resolution and caching. Some latest works have introduced ICN support for machine type communications, including publish/subscribe (PubSub) based data delivery in IoT applications [25] [26].…”

“…From the gray pattern area in the corresponding plots we observe that the Newman Eig variances always perform better than any probabilistic caching schemes. Note that this resilience property is also important in other network types (e.g., cyber physical systems [24], [25]). …”

“…Then, the authors of [5] studied Information-Centric Networking (ICN) performance in Real Time State Estimation (RTSE) of smart grids. This work has been expanded in [6] and an informationcentric platform baptized C-DAX is proposed to RTSE in active power distribution grids. Other research works dealt with different smart grid subsystem, we noticed particularly the adoption of ICN in home area networks for residential energy management [7].…”
