An improvement in acute wound healing in rats by the synergistic effect of photobiomodulation and arginine

Abstract: In this probe, at first we examined the best route and dosage of arginine administration on wound healing in an excisional wound model in rats. Next, we intend to assess the impact of photobiomodulation (PBM) and arginine, individually and together, on the wound healing. In the pilot study, an excisional wound was made in each of 24 rats. There were 4 groups. Group 1 was the control group. In groups 2 and 3, wounds were topically treated with arginine ointments (ARG.) 2% and 5%, respectively. In group 4, argin… Show more

“…The pulse duration was 180 ns with energy densities of 0.2 J/cm 2 (200 s) and 0.32 J/cm 2 (300 s). 16 Arginine powder (Sigma-Aldrich, USA) (2 g) was dissolved in water, and 98 g of Eucerin was added under sterile conditions to create the ARG ointment. 16 Both PBM and approximately 0.04 g of the ARG ointment were applied to the wounds of groups G4 and G6.…”

“…1,2 In case of wound healing, exogenous delivery of Arg was found to accelerate proliferation and remodeling phase of wound healing. 3 Supplemental Arg feeding demonstrated beneficial effects in wound repair. 4,5 Occurrence of an injury is known to activate arginase action around the injury site and an overexpression of the enzyme is likely to impair endogenous Arg supply and diminish iNOS.…”
