Health Monitoring System is a sophisticating technology and another way to the normal/regular management of the health of the patient. This Health Monitoring Mobile Application is a contribution from our side to the public and to the overall health industry in Pakistan. With the help of Health mobile application, the users will be able to store their medical records, prescriptions and retrieve them later. The users can store and keep track of their vital readings (heart rate, blood pressure, fasting glucose, random glucose). The mobile application also shows hospitals that are nearby in case the user wants to avail of any medical help. An important feature of the application is the symptoms-based disease prediction, the user selects the symptoms which he has and then the application will name certain diseases that match those symptoms based on relevant algorithms. The major advances and issues have been discussed, and as well as potential tasks to health monitoring will be identified and evaluated.

Wireless body area network (WBAN), a sub-branch of wireless sensor networks (WSN), helps continuous monitoring of various conditions and states of a human body. It has vast application areas, including self-care, battlefield, health, sports, assisted living, and entertainment. In WBAN, sensors (e.g., ECG, EEG, EMG, and temperature) may transmit sensed information of the subject under observation to a personal server which directs it to the main server for the analysis. The requirement of an application in terms of reliability and delay varies depending on the situation and environment. For instance, the high network delay and jitter for a health application may lead to a human death due to urgent response requirement. The major challenge faced by WBAN is to offer high Quality of Service (QoS). To ensure high QoS in WBAN, different techniques are proposed but all these techniques have considered different layers for different radio technologies. The current study put forwards an adaptive Multi-Radio Access Technologies (multi-RAT) based platform for the WBAN. Multi-RAT proposes a convergence/adaptation layer to entertain increasing request rate of WBAN applications. As a result, throughput, delay, and blocking probability for each request are minimized.

Health monitoring using biomedical sensors has witnessed significant attention in recent past due to the evolution of a new research area in sensor network known as Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs). In WBANs, a number of implantable, wearable, and off-body biomedical sensors are utilized to monitor various vital signs of patient’s body for early detection, and medication of grave diseases. In literature, a number of Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols for WBANs have been suggested for addressing the unique challenges related to reliability, delay, collision and energy in the new research area. The design of MAC protocols is based on multiple access techniques. Understanding the basis of MAC protocol designs for identifying their design objectives in broader perspective, is a quite challenging task. In this context, this paper qualitatively reviews MAC protocols for WBANs. Firstly, 802.15.4 and 802.15.6 based MAC Superframe structures are investigated focusing on design objectives. Secondly, different multiple access techniques such as TDMA, CSMA/CA, Slotted Aloha and Hybrid are explored in terms of design goals. Thirdly, a two-layered taxonomy is presented for MAC protocols. First layer classification is based on multiple access techniques, whereas second layer classification is based on design objectives and characteristics of MAC protocols. Critical and qualitative analysis is carried out for each considered MAC protocol. Comparative study of different MAC protocols is also performed. Finally, some open research challenges in the area are identified with initial research directions.
