An improved method for color image editing

Abstract: In this article, an improved approach for editing color images has been presented. In this approach, using the Poisson equation, a guided vector field is created by employing source and target images within a selected region at the first step. Next, the guided vector is used in generating the result image. Most of the existing techniques in the literature perform image editing without taking color information into account. However, without utilizing color information, image geometry cannot be created properly … Show more

“…It is the process of combining two images by copying the gradients of the pixels from the source image into the target image. It is used in many applications such as seamless cloning [14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22], seamless video editing [23][24], seamless stitching [25][26][27], shadow removal [28], inpainting [29][30][31], gradient domain painting [32,33], scene completion [34,35], and image smoothing [36][37][38]. Some of gradient domain methods compose images by solving the Poisson equation in the specified region.…”

“…The PIE method in [14] solves the Poisson equation for the color image using each color channel (R, G, B) independently. Dizdaroğlu and İkibaş [17,18] introduced a method for editing color images by using color information. This method takes into account that each color channel has an effect on other color channels on calculating the gradient of the image.…”

“…The improved method for color image editing in Ref. [4] uses the gradient norm together with color information in the cloning process to avoid the color bleeding problem. Sketch2Photo [25] presents a hybrid image blending method that optimizes the boundary by specifying texture and color consistency of boundary pixels.…”

“…The Poisson image editing technique suffers from two main problems: bleeding artifacts and color bleeding [3,4]. The problem of the bleeding artifacts is the appearance of smudges in the boundary of the blended region in the generated image.…”
