“…According to the authors of the study (48), complications resulted from balloon rupture, which could easily be prevented by improvements in design and the use of alternative materials. In another study (49), a new silimed gastric balloon (SGB) with a modified technique of insertion and removal, was used to improve safety and to fasten the procedure. The balloon is delicately rolled up inside a thin silicone sheath and is inserted endoscopically in the stomach.…”

“…Procedure-related complications were not observed; however, early removal was required in 21% of cases. Preliminary data suggest that SGB is a safe and effective alternative method of obesity treatment in patients with the appropriate indications (49).…”

“…Recently, a series of technical improvements in the intragastric balloon procedure using a new balloon—SGB—was proposed, and encouraging preliminary results of safety and efficiency in obese patients were obtained [5]. Based on this initial success, the objective of the present study was to use the new SGB technique in the weight-loss treatment of pre-obese patients.…”

“…18 Newer designs have been proposed, allowing placement under direct visualization into the gastric fundus by pulling the balloon alongside the gastroscope by using a polypectomy snare. 19 However, the durability of intragastric balloon therapy is limited because the device is typically removed after 6 months, returning the patient to his or her baseline anatomy. Still, these have been used successfully as a precursor to more definitive bariatric intervention in thousands of patients.…”
