An FTIR Study of the Electrooxidation of C2 and C3 Alcohols on Carbon‐Supported PdxRhy in Alkaline Medium**

Abstract: We have investigated the promoting effect of Rh addition to Pd‐based materials in the electrooxidation of ethanol and glycerol. Physicochemical characterizations (XRD, EDX, TEM, and XPS) of the PdxRhy/C materials, prepared by bromide anion exchange (BAE), showed that the experimental bimetallic compositions were close to the targeted ones. PdxRhy/C particle sizes ranged from 2.2 to 3.8 nm. The ethanol oxidation reaction (EOR) on the PdxRhy/C catalysts yielded four times larger carbonate (CO32−) amount. As for … Show more

“…With platinum [32,33], gold [30,36], copper [42,43], and silver [35], many common electrode materials can be used in ATR-SEIRAS. In addition, even alloys [44] and supported electrocatalysts [45] have been applied, but unfortunately the experimental procedure has not been extensively described. Thus, there are interesting opportunities for further research.…”

“…Among these elements, Sn is recognized as the best oxophilic element that can apply the electronic and synergistic effects and display strong performance and excellent long time durability. [12][13][14][15] Lots of literatures have reported EOR enhancements for Pd-based catalysts modified with tin as the transition metal compared to their monometallic counterparts. [16] The brief mention of these catalysts are SF-MWCNTs-PdSn, [17] PdSn-SnO 2 /C, [18] PdSn/ MWCNT, [19] PdSn/f-C, [20] PdSn/CNT, [21] Pd 3 Sn bimetallic with different morphologies, [22] PdSn(50 : 50)/C, [3] PdSn-15 NP, [16] and Pd 1 Sn 0.40 /TiO 2 -GO.…”

“…The addition of the transition metals as the assisted element is one of the most competent approach to promote electrocatalytic performance and reduce noble metal loading. Among these elements, Sn is recognized as the best oxophilic element that can apply the electronic and synergistic effects and display strong performance and excellent long time durability [12–15] . Lots of literatures have reported EOR enhancements for Pd‐based catalysts modified with tin as the transition metal compared to their monometallic counterparts [16] .…”
