“…In Task 4, congruent or incongruent multisensory (auditory and visual) numeric stimuli were simultaneously presented at either low (0.33 Hz; 3 trials/block) or high (0.66 Hz; 6 trials/block) frequency rates in ten-second blocks (Mayer et al 2015 ). In each block, the stream of target numbers (one, two, or three) was preceded by a cue word, “HEAR” or “LOOK”.…”

“…Multisensory integration is also known to be disrupted in several developmental disorders including schizophrenia (De Jong et al, 2010; Postmes et al, 2014; Mayer et al, 2015), dyslexia (Facoetti et al, 2010; Krause, 2015), and autism (Ciesielski et al, 1995; Belmonte and Yurgelun-Todd, 2003; Foss-Feig et al, 2010; Kwakye et al, 2011; Woynaroski et al, 2013). In addition, many developmental disorders also have strong links to alterations in attentional networks, executive functioning, and higher-order processes (Cardinale et al, 2013; Kamradt et al, 2014; Sidlauskaite et al, 2016).…”

“…Deficits in attention in schizophrenia have been reported and replicated for many years across a variety of tasks (Cornblatt and Keilp, 1994; Hahn et al, 2012; Keefe and Harvey, 2012; Laurent et al, 1999; Mayer et al, 2015; Smith and Cornblatt, 2005; Suwa et al, 2004; Verleger et al, 2013). Both sustained attention (the ability to maintain focus on a task over time) and selective attention (the ability to focus on task-relevant stimuli among competing stimuli) are affected.…”
