An Extended Finite Element Method (XFEM) Study on the Elastic T-Stress Evaluations for a Notch in a Pipe Steel Exposed to Internal Pressure

Abstract: The work investigates the importance of the K-T approach in the modelling of pressure cracked structures. T-stress is the constant in the second term of the Williams expression; it is often negligible, but recent literature has shown that there are cases where T-stress plays the role of opening the crack, also T-stress improves elastic modeling at the point of crack. In this research study, the most important effects of the T-stress are collected and analyzed. A numerical analysis was carried out by the extend… Show more

“…They also consider the multifunctional problem and multivariable structured model which is very much beneficial for the future research work. In the reference [28], the authors studied the behavior of the elasticity of a notch with proper mathematical equation and necessary simulation that is often used to design a linear or nonlinear mechanical system. However, any normal nonlinear system can be realized using some piecewise linear model which is discovered at least 70 years back.…”

“…The two series in the parentheses of the above equation (28), are nothing but the power series expansion of two linearly independent solutions of equation ( 13) and the coefficients are called arbitrary coefficient. In the next section we will be verifying the validity of the two linearly independent solutions of equation( 28) via simulation.…”

“…When machining HSLA steel, tool nose wear results to be precarious because of the high essential cutting forces. Normally, tool nose wear formation is ascribable to both the abrasion and adhesion onto the cutting edge which ultimately generates the chipping effect [41] which often leads to crack propagation because of forces [44]. These wear mechanisms which frequently overlap decisive a cutting edge dimensional loss resulting in geometrical variations of the machined workpiece [38].…”

“…Therefore, the repair and maintenance activities are preferred to reuse the defective tools to lower capital investment. The potential defects which require repairing action are dents, plastic deformation, wear, and crack [6,7]. The plastic deformation is caused due to excessive use and fatigue loading on the die face.…”
