Hu (2005) compared the intercultural communication papers published in Chinese academic journals during the four years from 1999 to 2002 with the papers published by the International Journal of Intercultural Relations in the United States during the same period, and found that empirical research papers dominated in American journals, and less than one percent of intercultural communication papers based on empirical research in Chinese journals. Such a low proportion may be related to the scope of the published publications and the content of the publications, but it still reflects the fact that Chinese researchers should increase their empirical research in this field.…”
