The field of sports has traditionally been a domain that practices and reinforces masculinity. However, in contemporary literature, observations and experiences of males in sports have expanded their ideas on masculinity as well as gender identity. Furthermore, there is an increase in males participating in non-orthodox masculine physical activities, most of which are known as “gender appropriate” for females such as cheerleading, dance, gymnastics, etc. Recently, pole dance – a stigmatized female-oriented activity – has become a newly introduced activity in the sports scene and one in which males are gradually engaging in worldwide. In the case of Korea, the phenomenon of men taking part in female-concentrated activities is not common; however, there are a rising number of male pole dancers visible through national competitions and media sources. Therefore, this study explores the experiences of Korean male exotic pole dance practitioners to understand how they define gender identity whilst participating in a highly female-oriented activity. It was found that research participants articulated beyond their biological sex and practice not to conform to social gender roles, and rather emphasized their manifested identity of individual self. Despite Korea’s cultural and traditional aspects of gender norms, this study establishes a broader segment of gender ideas and expands the understanding of various identities spoken among male polers.

We conducted this survey of adult women across the nation to investigates adult women’s (20-50s) dimension of desired image type, appearance management motives and make-up. In addition it verifies an influence on make up for appearance management motives according to pursuit image. First, Factor analysis and reliability analysis were conducted to investigate low dimension organizing pursuit image. finally 5 factors were classified. Based on 5 factors, total 3 adult women group were made. Cross analysis was conducted to make comparison of general character of demography of 3 groups. We figure out that there is significant subordinate relations between pursuit image type and general character of demography, Second, Factor analysis and reliability analysis were conducted to investigate low dimension organizing appearance management motives and make-up behavior. The analysis result are as follows. Appearance management motives consists of 4 factors, make-up behavior consists of 4 factors. Third, Regression analysis was conducted to investigate an influence of appearance management motives on make-up behavior according to classified 3 type of pursuit image. The result are as follows. The influence of appearance management motives on make-up behavior targeted at proactive image pursuit group, We figure out there is significant positive correlation between appearance management motives and make-up behavior. the influence of appearance management motives on make-up behavior targeted at attractive image pursuit group, We figure out there is significant ositive correlation between appearance management motives and make-up behavior. The influence of appearance management motives on make-up behavior targeted at delicate image pursuit group, We figure out there is significant positive correlation between appearance management motives and make-up behavior.
: Contemporary young men are consumption-oriented, pursue ideal male images displayed in commercials, and are highly interested in fashion, beauty, and appearance. This metrosexual tendency(which values appearance) is largely influenced by mass media. This study examines how men's media information utilization influences appearance awareness and metrosexual tendency as well as how these two variables influence cosmetics consumption and fashion product consumption behavior. The results are as follows. First, metrosexual tendency consists of four dimensions: fashion involvement, pursuit of individuality beyond sexuality, cognition of fashion taste, and preference of a high quality product. The sum of variance is 65.594%. Second, media information utilization influenced metrosexual tendency and metrosexual tendency influence cosmetic consumption, brand-sensitive consumption and commercial-sensitive consumption; however, it did not affect price-sensitive consumption. Third, media information utilization affected appearance awareness; however, appearance awareness did not affect metrosexual tendency. In conclusion, appearance management behavior for men in their 20s is clearly affected by media. This phenomenon is caused by the metrosexual desire to express identity through fashion. Men in their 20's do not take care of their looks because of the social perception of appearance (as related to showing off their competence or pursuit of social success); rather, they have a desire to express their individuality and personally enjoy grooming and maintaining their appearance. Therefore, we can expect increased beauty and fashion expenditures.
