An experimental verification on existence of air-drag force influencing yarn tension during rotor spinning

Abstract: Purpose Most researchers have neglected the effect air-drag force on yarn tension during rotor spinning. This paper aims to study the effect of rotor air-vacuum pressure in conjunction with opening roller speed and yarn linear density on the yarn tension generated during the rotor spinning, which has established their significant influences on both the mean and the peak tension. This is the first of one-of-a-kind experimental study being reported to demonstrate the influence of air-drag force on yarn tension du… Show more

“…), open-end spinning could achieve the process of fiber collecting, twisting and yarn exporting by the airflow produced by the rotor at high speed, which is characterized by short procedure, high speed, large package and other advantages. 8 As shown in Figure 1, after the cotton silver was placed into the spinning apparatus by the bell mouth, it would be converted into the even fibre strand on being pressed by the feed roller and feed plate, after which it would be decomposed; the combing roller would decompose the cotton strand and remove impurities. Under the function of airflow and centrifugal force, the decomposed single fiber rapidly entered the fiber pipeline, which slipped, collected and twisted the fiber under the condition of high-speed rotation.…”

“…The numerical simulation of the flow field in the spinning channel was conducted in FLUENT software. Based on the spinning process of the air-extraction rotor, the airflow inlet of the fiber pipeline was set as the form of mass flow rate, then the airflow mass m entering the fiber pipeline within the unit time could be calculated as per equaltion (8). 19 Given that the atmosphere density q ¼ 1.225 kg/m 3 , inlet region area s ¼ 29.63 mm 2 , inlet airflow velocity v ¼ 55 m/s were all introduced into equation ( 8), then the inlet mass flow rate m % 0.002 kg/s was obtained.…”

“…Another part of the research focused on applying the balloon theory to existing textile equipment Praček 7 improved the unwinding process of cross winding bobbin and improves the unwinding stability based on the balloon theory. Chattopadhyay et al 8 investigated the effect of air resistance generated by vacuum pressure, Cairo roll speed and yarn linear density on the tension of the balloon during rotor spinning. Mei 9 studied the influence of spindle angular velocity, yarn fineness and other factors on the tension of balloon of direct cabling machine, and established the fitting equation.…”

“…In order to obtain better spinning performance, experimental studies on the design of combing units have been carried out over the last decades. 6 –8 Yuksekkaya et al 9 and Shang et al 10 studied fiber removal from open rolls and fiber trajectories in the transfer channel using a high-speed camera and scanning electron microscopy. Their analysis concluded that a narrow rectangular cross section of the transfer channel was more conducive to producing a better fiber structure than a rounded transfer channel.…”
