During the world energy transformation, using some vegetable oils as fuel enables the production of clean and inexpensive energy with the application of the well-known technology of the CI engine. The common rail (CR) fuel system gives many opportunities related to creating an air–fuel mixture and its efficient combustion. Can the system dedicated to diesel oil be used to inject vegetable oil and control its combustion effectively? This paper presents some results of the application of the injection strategy for raw Camelina sativa (CS) oil fueling. The test was conducted on the AVL single-cylinder CI engine equipped with a CR system for engine speed n = 1500 rpm and different excess air coefficients (1.1 < λ < 2.1). The engine parameters and performance obtained for raw CS oil were compared with the results obtained for diesel oil fueling for the same and slightly modified injection strategy. The experiment demonstrated how much the combustion process and its effects differ for these two fuels. In addition, several aspects related to the cultivation and use of Camelina sativa oil as a renewable energy source are presented.

Due to the shortage of the conventional fossil fuels and air pollution from combustion, new, sustainable and cleaner fuel resources are urgently required. Biodiesel has been introduced as a potential and alternative fuel for years. Biodiesel can be produced from different sources such as vegetable oils, animal fat, waste oil, etc. This study is intended to determine the effects of camelina ethyl ester, which is obtained from raw camelina oil by using ethanol, on engine performance mixing it with diesel fuel proportionately. Diesel, 80% diesel and 20% camelina ethyl ester by volumetrically and 100% camelina ethyl ester fuels were used as fuel. In the experiments, a four-cylinder, 1900cc, with turbocharged supplier diesel engine with Common -Rail fuel injection system was used. The experiments were repeated 3 times and the averages of the results were taken. When the results were investigated, it was seen that maximum torque, maximum power and specific fuel consumption values were measured in diesel fuel. Power and torque values of B20 and B100 fuels were a little lower than in diesel fuel and their specific fuel consumption was higher than the others.

The article investigates the possibilities for the miscibility and practical use of different concentrations of biofuel rapeseed fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) with aviation kerosene Jet A-1 (or aviation kerosene PL-7 used in the Air Force of the Slovak Republic) in aircraft jet engines. The main objective of this research was the experimental verification of the technical possibilities of reliable operation of the experimental engine SJE-20 in a special laboratory of small jet engines using different concentrations of the mixture of aviation kerosene Jet A-1 and biofuel FAME and their influence on the selected operating parameters of the experimental engine. The motivation for this research is the desire to replace conventional aviation fuels with fuels that can be obtained from renewable sources. Investigation of the possibilities of powering the experimental SJE-20 engine with a mixture of traditional aviation kerosene Jet A-1 (PL-7) and rapeseed fatty acid methyl ester FAME was the subject of the internal project BIOFUEL (Biofuel for Aviation).
