To meet the demand of antiseepage and reinforcement of soil dams, a kind of permeable polyurethane grouting material was developed. A visual steady-pressure grouting test device was designed to study the law of polyurethane diffusion and reinforcement in silt under different pressure, and the interaction mechanism of grout and soil body structure was explored microscopically. The results showed that, with the increase in the grouting pressure, the diffusion speed rose, and the diffusion pattern of grout in the soil also changed from permeation diffusion to permeation splitting. Under the effect of grouting pressure, more tiny cracks will occur in the soil structure, leading to the use of more grout, thus increasing the strength of the consolidated soil by more than 10 times. The results of SEM-EDS and mercury intrusion test proved that the polyurethane had a significant filling effect on the soil structure, which could effectively reduce the porosity of the soil and cement the soil particles through wrapping, complexing, and hydrogen bonding, thereby improving the soil properties. Moreover, the results revealed from a microscopic perspective that the grouting altered the pore structure of the soil structure through the seepage-erosion-splitting coupling effect, but when the grouting pressure exceeded 0.4 MPa, the soil particle and grout would be partially remixed and arranged closely, showing a phenomenon of jet grouting. Finally, the material was used in engineering practice, achieving a satisfactory grouting treatment effect.

Resource Utilization of Red Mud from the Solid Waste of Aluminum Industry Used in Geothermal Wells

It is difficult for the commonly used Class G oil well cement to withstand the high-temperature environment of geothermal wells, and it is easy to deteriorate the mechanical properties and damage the integrity of the cement sheath. Industrial solid waste red mud can be used as supplementary cementing materials (SCMs) to improve its mechanical properties at high temperatures. In addition, compared to Class G oil well cement, high belite cement (HBC) has lower energy consumption and better mechanical properties at high temperatures. In this study, the mechanical properties of HBC as a gel material and quartz sand and red mud as SCMs were studied at high temperatures. The ratio of HBC to SCMs and the ratio of quartz sand to red mud in SCMs were optimized using the response surface method (RSM). The response surface was established using the three-level factorial design model, which fit well with the experimental data. The optimization results show that the best mass ratio of SCMs/HBC is 37.5% and that the best quality ratio of quartz sand/red mud is 9 under the curing conditions of 180 °C. However, the best mass ratio of SCMs/HBC is 49.3%, and the best quality ratio of quartz sand/red mud is 7 under 220 °C. With the addition of SCMs, the silicon-to-calcium ratio of HBC hydration products decreases, and high-temperature-stable xonotlite and tobermorite can be formed. After adding SCMs, the cement sample is denser without obvious cracks.

Waste sediment (WS) is a solid waste produced from subway construction. In the present work, high-volume WS was upcycled to prepare grouting material.The results showed that the working performances (consistency, fluidity, setting time, bleeding ratio, and stone ratio)of WS-based grouting material were significantly affected by the mass concentration of solid components, binder to WS ratio, and steel slag addition. This material can meet the engineering requirement by adjusting these parameters. The WS-based grouting material exhibited superior performance compared to traditional grouting materials. It achieved self-leveling (160 mm fluidity) and wassuitable for grouting (consistency within 100-130 mm, 95.0% stone ratio). Amorphous phases were formed in the hardened sample. The addition of a suitable amount of steel slag (10%) can reduce the total porosity, and also promote the hydration degree and increase the mechanical properties of cement matrix.The strength development can be attributed to the formation of hydration products and the cementation between hydrates and sediment particles.
